FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: New Product Introduction

GMP Showcases the "Tornado" Cable Blowing Machine and
other Cable Placing Equipment at the SCTE Cable-Tec Expo

July 2009; Trevose, PA -- General Machine Products Company, Inc. (GMP), Trevose, PA, introduces its Fiber Optic Cable Blowing Machine (AKA Tornado) at the 2009 Society of Cable Telecommunication Engineers (SCTE) Cable-Tec Expo (Booth #10039), to be held in the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, CO., on Wednesday, October 28 through Friday, October 30.

The Tornado Cable Blowing Machine is designed to be fast, safe and effective. It can move fiber optic cable of 0.23 to 1.25 in. (5.84-32 mm) diameter at speeds to 300 ft./min. (90 m/min.) into a pre-installed innerduct or direct-buried duct. The Tornado can also accommodate an innerduct from 1 to 2.48 in. (25-63 mm) and there is a conversion kit allows that it to place either 12/10 mm or 10/8 mm micro duct into the innerduct.

The Tornado consists of an aluminum air box and cable pusher and it uses compressed air to install cables with or without a missile. It has a hydraulically powered, caterpillar belt drive system that controls the fiber optic cable, as it is propelled by compressed air into the duct. The Tornado also has an electronic monitoring system that provides read-outs of speed and distance, protects cable against duct obstructions, and includes an emergency stop facility.
