Why MAPP Gas instead of acetylene or propane? MAPP Gas offers stability, safety and portability that acetylene can't match. It is hotter and faster than propane or natural gas.

MAPP is preferred and recommended for heat shrinking of splice closures. It has a high heat release in its primary and secondary flames which make for a larger effective heating area within the flame. This increases the speed of the heat shrink operation because you don't have to be as critical about the distance of the torch from the closure as you do with acetylene or propane.

GMP is now offering a compact heat shrinking and lead wiping system. Included in the kit is a heavy walled aluminum torch, a 1 1/2 inch Ram-Jet® heat shrink tip, a single stage MAPP regulator, a #6 orifice Ram-Jet® tip for lead wiping, a 10 foot Grade T hose with connections and a flint striker.
