Like all of GMP's capstans, the new 40-inch (101 cm) design can be used for end or mid-assist pulling, allowing long, straight-through, splice-free pulls. It can pull rope and tape, in addition to fiber optic cable, with notably efficient pulling speeds.

The new 40-inch pulling capstan has a working surface of 7.5 inches (19 cm). It can be delivered with or without a torque limiter. Torque limiters are available to provide a maximum pull force of either 600 lb (272 kg) or 1000 lb (453 kg). A steel shaft for no-slip applications is also available. The maximum rated load is 1500 lb (687 kg).

GMP's Fiber Optic Pulling Capstans are specially designed to work with existing pulling equipment to provide safer, faster pulling of fiber optic cables (in conformance with their size and bending radius restrictions), and allow almost any winch or capstan drive unit to become a highly productive placement unit. Available in 25-inch (63.5 cm), 32-inch (81 cm) and 40-inch (101 cm) diameters, they are constructed of lightweight, high-strength aluminum and mount on a 2-7/16 inch (62 mm) diameter drive with either a bayonet or cross-pin connection.
