The U.S. Commercial Service (Telecommunications Services & Equipment, Opportunities in Mexico, April 2002) estimated the Mexican market for telephone services and equipment at US $12.7 billion in 2001, suggesting a pent-up demand for telephone service that should give the market a 3% increase in 2002. Mexico has the world's 12-largest economy, with a GDP estimated at $557 billion in 2000. It also has a population of approximately 100-million people, but a fixed-line telephone density of just 13 lines per 100 people. In contrast, the United States has a fixed-line density of better than 70 lines per 100 people.

First Authorized Lasher Repair Center Outside of U.S.

In addition to being a distributor for the full line of GMP products, Electelco employees have been trained by GMP in the service and repair of GMP lashing machines, which are used for the aerial placement of conductor and cable in the telecommunications, power utility and cable television industries. So, the GMP-Electelco agreement also brings the first GMP-authorized lashing machine repair center apart from the GMP headquarters facilities in Trevose, Pa.
